"Definitely different ingredients of bacon, black olives, small white onions, mushrooms, garlic, thyme, orange peel, red wine and green peas give this stew a distinct savory flavor." — DIVER3DOWN

3 slices bacon
2 pounds beef stew meat
1 cup dry red wine
1 cube beef bouillon
1 cup boiling water
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tablespoon dried minced onion
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
strip of orange peel
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons cold water
1 1/2 cups pickled pearl onions, drained
3/4 pound fresh button mushrooms, halved
1/2 cup pitted black olives
1 (10 ounce) package frozen green peas, thawed and drained
Not special but easy. I let it simmer about an hour and a half for more tender meat.
This was good. Unlike any stew I have ever eaten. My family loves soup, and stews so I will be making this again.

This was a delicious weeknight meal. I loved the onions, found them jarred in the canned veggie section. They hold their shape nicely in the stew. I omitted the bacon, and just browned the meat in olive oil. I found the "gravy" took a little more cornstarch than mentioned to thicken to my liking, the addition of the mushrroms produces extra liquid. Thank you for your submission, we enjoyed trying this!
This was SO good! I'm rating it 5 stars because the overall flavor ended up incredible. We both gobbled it up. I did edit the recipe: I ended up dicing and keeping the bacon inside the recipe. I had some chorizo (Spanish sausage) just laying around so I threw that in too. I tripled the garlic, and threw in a can of garlic and basil tomatoes with the liquid. I skipped the cornstarch and the cold water and added two tablespoons of flour instead. I added a couple more orange peels and threw in a sprinkling of basil and white pepper. I put in a whole can of chopped olives and used sugar snap peas since we love the crunch. I didn't use the pickled onions and just threw them in raw. I actually cooked everything together for about 1h 45 mins and added the peas in for 10 minutes at the end to preserve the crunch. It came out UNBELIEVABLE! Hope this helps someone!
It was a crowd pleaser!! Even with the kids.
