  1. Crush the dill seed, mustard, and cumin in a spice grinder or with a mortar and pestle. Pour the spices into a 5 gallon stockpot along with the chili powder, paprika, red pepper flakes, rosemary, thyme, dill, sage, and parsley. Fill the pot 3/4 full with water, and bring to a rolling boil over an intense flame.
  2. Add the blue crabs, cover the pot, and boil until all of the shells turn red, and the meat is no longer translucent, about 20 minutes. Stir the crabs occasionally as they boil to ensure even cooking.

Wonderful. As an avid crabber, I use this recipe for rock crabs out here in Cali instead of buying Old Bay or Zatarans. I have most of the herbs in my garden so I can pick them fresh. Will use this recipe over and over. Thanks !!

I love Blue Crabs, there's an International Market less than a mile from me, where I get these all the time. This seasoning is a great addition and a change from my normal Oldbay very good.

Made this recipe tonight with 8 blue crabs weighing 1/2 lb each, and fed two adults (served with sauteed butter garlic mushrooms). It came out great, although I followed instructions from the woman selling the crabs and only boiled 14 minutes on med-high. I did not have any dill or mustard seed, and I threw a little Old Bay in the pot also. Since my pot is not a 5 gallon, I did 4 crabs at a time. They came out wonderful. The crabs at the top of the pot had a very mild spiced flavor and the ones that got to sit at the bottom were more heavily spiced, but the crab flavor was perfect -- not overly strong and not weak or bland. Next time I will boil 2 at a time and we will eat one pair while the next pair is cooking so they don't get cold. The colder they are, the harder they are to take apart. It took us almost an hour and fifteen minutes to eat but it was great for conversation! Thanks for the recipe!

Great recipe!! The kids went crabbing over vacation so I was thrilled to try this. Added so much flavor to the already yummy crabs. Thank you!!
