tart apples - peeled, cored, and sliced
Very, very yummy. We actually used this as a side dish with dinner. I agree that one teaspoon of cinnamon instead of one tablespoon is better. And I just noticed the other reviewer's suggestion to put it in oatmeal...can't wait to try that in the morning! Thanks for the great recipe, Lauren!
This really did not turn out "syrupy". I let it cook for 15-20 min in hopes that more water would boil off to form a syrup. It never did. If I make this again, I'll just skip adding extra water because enough water is drawn out of the apples by the sugar. The apples were very good though - I cut down on cinnamon and added a bit of nutmeg.
Give this a try and you won't be disappointed! I served this atop the Buttermilk Pancakes II recipe and it was delicious! I used saigon cinnamon (a bit spicier cinnamon) and Granny Smith apples. I actually halved the recipe since I was just making enough for hubby and me. Other than that though, I followed exactly. Bravo, thanks for sharing Lauren!
We're cinnamon lovers, but thought this recipe calls for too much! The cinnamon was a little overwhelming, almost bitter. The second time I made this, I used 1 tsp & it was perfect. Used it to top dutch babies & it looked very pretty. I've also used it to top pancakes & they were delicious! Thanks for a good start on a nice & simple syrup recipe!
the apples were a great side dish for our shake n bake pork chops. we even dipped the pork chops into the extra syrup. yum! will make again.
This is definetly on my top two favorite syrup list. I made buttermilk pancakes with this and my husband could not stop talking about how great it was. Thanks for the great recipe!
What a great idea for using over pancakes! Yum! I used two gala apples, and decreased the sugar to 1/4 cup because gala apples are pretty sweet as it is. Decreased the cinnamon to 1 tsp as previous reviewers recommended. I didn't decrease the amount of water. Granted, the syrup doesn't thicken up which is what previous reviewers were commenting on, but oh my goodness, the liquid tastes so good I didn't care! It soaked right into the pancakes and the flavour was incredible! Thank you very much for such a great recipe :)
I thought we would be appled out after using most of the 8lbs if apples from apple picking, but my house guests and I just couldn't get enough of this awesome recipe. It was perfect with our homemade waffles.
