  1. Preheat waffle iron. In a large mixing bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cocoa. Stir in milk, eggs and butter until mixture is smooth.
  2. To make hard sauce: stir together softened butter, confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract and milk. Sauce should be fairly stiff.
  3. Spray preheated waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray. Pour mix onto hot waffle iron. Cook until golden brown. Serve hot with hard sauce.

I will rate this a four because I made changes... but with my changes I would rate it a 5!! The changes I made were 2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 cup cocoa powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp vanilla and half a bag of chocolate chips. So yummy! I made this in my belgian waffle maker and they turned our wonderful! I served this with Easy Whipped Cream from this site. I made the leftovers and froze them. I think I will try them for dessert with ice cream next!

These were ok. I didn't think the chocolate flavor was strong enough and I agree with other reviewers that they had a very pancake like texture.

These were fun for breakfast. As other reviewers stated, but waffles don't really get crispy, but stay chewy. We froze the extra and popped in the toaster for breakfast during the week and those got crispy though. I didn't bother with the sauce, but using fresh fruit, jam and syrup. If you are looking for something different, give these a try.

AWESOME!! This is a wonderful weekend treat. They were very moist. They texture is more like a pancake, not crispy on the outside. I also noticed I had to use slightly less batter on the iron than I normally would, or they overflowed. Great with strawberries and whipped cream. :)

i mixed the dry ingredients and used as a present with a waffle iron for my mom. she asked for 3lbs of the mix. said it was absolutely wonderful!

yum yum! I used 1/4 cup of cocoa powder, 2 tsp of baking powder, 1/2 tsp of baking soda, and oil instead of melted butter. I freeze them and then pop them into the toaster. Crunchy outside, soft inside with great chocolaty flavor.

Holy shamolies! These things are GOOOOOOOOD! I made them with a friend for "Girls' Day Breakfast" and ooh-ooh-ooh. We topped with the hard sauce then added fresh sliced strawberries and cool-whip on top. What a treat! An easy recipe that looks and tastes so divine! Thanks for sharing.
