Ingredients

  • 5/8 cup white sugar
  • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • salt to taste
  • 3 slices white bread
  • 1/4 cup margarine

Directions

  1. Combine sugar, flour and cocoa. Put under broiler to brown, stirring frequently. Remove from heat. Add a little milk until creamy. Cool.
  2. Heat the remainder of the milk to boiling. Gradually stir in cocoa mixture, bring to a boil. Add vanilla and salt to taste.
  3. Cube the bread, and fry golden brown in the butter or margarine. Serve with the hot soup.
