Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter (no substitutes), softened
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup fat-free milk
  • 1 cup chopped dates

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and brown sugar. Add egg; mix well. Combine the flours, lemon peel, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Stir in dates.
  2. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 325 degrees F for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown. remove to wire racks to cool. Store in an airtight container.
