I confess I haven't made the actual salad, just the dressing (the salad sounds great and I will make it some day). But, I was looking for a good Catalina dressing like the one I grew up with in the bottle. This is it! I will always have this in my fridge now!

Had this at a friends last night for dinner, and it was excellent. The dressing is a definite keeper.

Took this to two parties yesterday, so had time to adjust in between. It was a hit at both parties - people commented specifically on the dressing and the crunchiness. I blended the dressing - including the onion - for a smooth dressing. The color was a bit unappetizing, so ended up adding some red food coloring. I did add a garlic clove to the dressing the second time. Was asked for the recipe for the dressing - always a good sign! Thanks for another dressing for my collection!
