I have made better carrot cake. This got good reviews so I tried it but it was rather bland all you taste is the icing. I guess I will go back to my great grandmothers recipe.

I have made this cake several times and it has turned out excellent every time. The recipe is perfectly fine just as written. However, according to personal taste I have made the following changes with great results: 1)cut the sugar to one cup, half white half brown, 2)add half cup of raisins. With the addition of the raisins, one cup of sugar still yields a very sweet and moist cake. Fantastic recipe.

Great recipe Tammy! We tried and loved it. We reduced the amount of sugar in both the cake and the frosting and it was still great!

My husband LOVES this cake. He has asked for it 3 years in a row now for his birthday. I use the 1C white sugar, 1C brown sugar, and add 1/4 tsp nutmeg.
