I like this web-site and have found many tasty recipes. I have never commented on a recipe before and would like to now. I appreciate reviews that enhance the recipe and do not change it so much it looks little like the original. Taste is so very subjective. Looking for a new little 'something,' I was delighted when I saw this recipe. I had all the ingredients on hand. As someone suggested I simmered the ingredients 40-45 minutes to meld the flavors. I had one and a half pounds of ground beef so added sausage that I had on hand. I personally like the taste of the combination. I had corn tortillas, that I prefer to flour, spread the beans on the tortillas again as suggested by another reviewer, and layered meat, cheese and tortillas - bean side down. Voilà - soggy tortilla problem solved. Following the recipe with the recommended amount of beef (sausage) mix I had enough for 2 complete layers and finished with the last bit of meat mixture and topped with slices of sharp cheddar cheese. Halfway through baking added another can of sliced olives. Again, taste being subjective I used half red and half green taco sauce as I love the green. You can top this recipe with any number of fun things - tomato, green onion, sour cream, etc., or eat just "as is." Delicious. Thank you Kathie for sharing.
