Directions

  1. Heat waffle iron according to package directions. Whisk pancake mix, water, oil, egg and 1/2 cup chocolate hazelnut spread together in large bowl just until blended.
  2. Coat hot waffle iron with no-stick cooking spray. Pour about 1 cup of batter onto center of waffle iron and close lid. Bake 5 to 6 minutes or until steaming stops. Repeat with remaining batter, making 16 (4x4) waffles.
  3. Combine syrup and 1/4 cup chocolate hazelnut spread in small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on HIGH for 30 seconds. Stir until smooth.
  4. Place waffle on serving plate. Top with 1/4 cup strawberries, whipped cream, another waffle, 1/4 cup strawberries and finish with whipped cream. Repeat with remaining waffles. Serve with chocolate hazelnut syrup.

Wow - this was fabulous! The review is for the Neopolitan piece of the recipe as I used "Wonderful Waffles" from this site which produced a tender, light and crispy waffle. I love the hazelnut spread combined with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. You could easily change this up and use sliced bananas. You could eat this for breakfast, but I chose to do this as a dessert with the addition of vanilla ice cream - YUM!

Excellent recipe! I used a buttermilk waffle recipe since I did not have waffle mix on hand and added 1/2 cup of JIF hazelnut spread. Turned out great!
