I've made this recipe quite a few times and it is very versatile. I interchange ingredients as I go, usually substituting in black beans and adding ground turkey and trying different beers every time. I've tried Modelo especial, Tecate, Pabst and today I'm trying an IPA. Modelo has so far been the best complement to the flavors. The base ingredients are spot on and I recommend after you try the original recipe to tweak it any way you see fit. I make it in the slow cooker and usually use at least 24 oz of beer, so this recipe is very easy to make in the slow cooker also.

This is my first time making Chili, I thought it was great I did alter it a bit though. I did not have the fresh peppers but I had a package of dry salsa mix so I used that instead, I also left our the sausage and the bacon bits, these seemed odd ingredients for Chili, plus I used my pressure cooker instead of crock pot. Everyone loved it, my son, husband and I, I plan to make it again.

I've made this recipe several times and love it. I actually took all of the "chopped" veges and threw them in the food processor instead of actually chopping them. Turned out great and the kids didn't have to see the veges that were all still in there.

I make this recipe all the time. Many ingredients but well worth it. Instead of 2 lbs. ground beef I add 1lb. Ground beef and 1 lb. stewed beef cubes. I also cut down on the hot ingredients. Delish!

it's a good recipe but we prefer our version a bit drier, so I carefully add the beer, to keep it from being too soupy. Also we don't add any salt, cause the canned beans and tomatoes already have salt in them. I don't add any cayenne, just the chili powder and and aji amarillo and cascabel peppers from my garden (to taste), giving it more a 'fresh heat'.

This is the only chili recipe I go to now. Even when I have to omit ingredients because I don't have them all on hand, it still turns out great.

Second time making this, besides cutting cayenne pepper in half, make as per original and best chili ever.
