These are really good baked beans, and I even decreased the brown sugar to 2 Tablespoons. But my family kept asking why I made these instead of sticking with my tried and tested recipe I'd made for years.

These baked beans were GREAT!! I doubled the recipe. I only had generic baked beans but they worked better since they arent overly seasoned. With the bacon i sliced a pack of frozen bacon in 1/2 and cooked it like that in the pan then after it drained I chopped it up and added it to the beans to cook in--this was much easier than cutting up raw bacon. I didnt have green bell pepper so added fresh red bell pepper. I did add the same amount of finely chopped onion. I didnt have hickory smoked barbeque sauce...so I added a 1/2 tsp of liquid smoke which did the trick. Next time i would use half the amount of brown sugar because i did drizzle in some molasses (about a tblsp) and the brown sugar makes them quite sweet. The end product consistency was loose but baked beans should be that way in my opinion--not sticky or clumpy. I would definately make this again!!!

I liked this recipe but once I prepared to exactly the beans seemed to miss something so I researched other recipes and added 1/4 cup of Ketchup and 2-3 tbsp of mustard and that did the trick for me! Otherwise great recipe!

I made a half batch of these, using onion instead of green pepper. My husband and I polished them off in one meal. Used Kraft Brown Sugar Sweet & Spicy bbq sauce. This is going to be a regular at our house!

My husband absolutely loves this recipe for baked beans. I have a jar of bacon grease in the fridge that I use (just enough to saute the peppers), rather than adding actual bacon (only because it tends to get soggy -- which is unappealing to our family). Otherwise, I give this recipe 5 stars for ease of prep and overall taste. Letting these beans sit uncovered for a while after baking helps them thicken up so they aren't running all over your plate.
