Original recipe makes 1 - 1 pound loaf Change Servings

1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup water
1 egg
2 1/4 cups bread flour

1 tablespoon white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Directions

Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select Basic White Bread cycle; press Start.
After the baking cycle ends, remove bread from pan, place on metal rack and allow to cool one hour before slicing.

This makes great toast, or grilled sandwiches. I tried it once with an extra egg and an extra 1/4 cup flour, and it came out a lovely golden color with the taste of an egg bagel.

This bread smelled wonderful when it was baking, actually much better than most of the breads I bake. However, I was upset by its taste and by the fact it was too airy to me; THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A BAGEL. I won't bake it again, but if you're looking for a light and airy bread with some kind of a "plain" flavor, this one will do the trick.

Yummy bread. I mixed in the bread machine and baked in the oven. I baked at 375*F for about 35 minutes using a 8"x4" loaf pan. The taste was not exactly like a bagel, but close enough.
