Authentic chummus is very different and SO much tastier than it's American counterpart. This chummus is creamy and delicate in taste rather than overpowered with garlic or thick and pasty. It is eaten warm, fresh, and as a whole meal spread out in a dish and drizzled with fresh olive oil. It is scooped up with pita, raw onion slices, or just a fork. Do NOT use canned chickpeas (garbanzo beans)!

Everything goes into the food processor - garbanzo beans, tahini and lemon juice. Then roasted red peppers and basil. Chill and enjoy.

Traditional hummus is the starting point for this fiery spread packed with heat from jalapeno, banana, Cubanelle, and serrano chile peppers, plus cayenne, red pepper flakes, garlic, red bell pepper, and a splash of olive oil. Have the fire department's phone number handy!

I make this hummus all the time. It only takes a few minutes to prepare, and it's healthier without the oil. Increase or decrease the ingredients as desired, especially the jalapenos! Serve with pita chips or fresh veggie slices. Add more of the reserved bean liquid for a smoother dip.

As a spread, dip or garlicky pita filling, classic hummus is both delicious and satisfying. Best of all, it's whipped up in seconds in a blender or food processor.
