This was my first time trying these and they were delicious! Our family recently picked some apples from a mountain close to our town and I could not decide on what to make. I read some of the previous reviews and tried some of the adjustments. I doubled the recipe but left the sugar amount the same, and baked it in a 9x13 pan. Others said not to double the cinnamon but I (accidentally) did anyway and it still came out great. I used 2 large Fuji apples instead, since that's what we had. I had planned on using chopped almonds, as one member suggested, but figured I'd leave them out and take my chances. I also added about 1/3 cup of apple juice to give it more of an apple flavor. I left out the top coating of sugar and cinnamon because I didn't want it to be too sweet, and because others said it fell off too easily anyway. Let me tell you, I'm not a huge fan of apple desserts (I made these for my husband's co-workers), but these were AMAZING. I was going to drizzle some caramel on top but they were perfect without it! After cooling I cut them into squares and they didn't cut neatly, but that's perfectly fine by me. I had no problem getting a fork and going to town on all the delicious crumbs in the pan. It pretty much came out like an apple pie cake. I'll definitely have to make more sooner than expected.
