Apple Pie Moonshine

Recipe by

"Great tasting apple pie in a jar but it does pack quite a kick if your not careful. The longer it sits in the fridge the better it seems to get. Makes a great gift."

  1. Combine apple juice, apple cider, white sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon sticks in a large pot; bring to almost a boil. Cover pot with a lid, reduce heat, and simmer for about 1 hour. Remove pot from heat and cool completely.
  2. Stir grain alcohol and vodka into syrup and remove cinnamon sticks. Pour apple pie moonshine into clean glass jars or bottles. Store in the refrigerator.

  • Cook's Note:
  • Try putting a cinnamon stick in each container if you like a lot of cinnamon.
  • I like to keep the apple juice and cider jugs to put the finished product into for storage. Also use wine bottles or the liquor bottles as well.

I omit the white sugar completely and only use brown sugar and instead of vodka use 151 spiced rum. I also use a lot more cinnamon sticks (they sell them at Sam's club and they are about half as long as normal ones) I put one in each 16 oz. mason jar that I use. Made it for Christmas last year and the crowd went wild. It was a HUGE hit.

I made this recently.......definitely not enough alcohol, and I recommend, less cinnamon.

These didn't taste like an apple pie moonshine like it should be. Although, it is smooth tasting but could use more everclear and a hint of something else. I would lessen the vodka since it stuck out a lot, other than that, it's a lovely treat for the holidays especially for those who like to give out homemade gifts in mason jars :) . I should mention that the state of california does not sell 190 proof only 151.

Not like grandmas moonshine, but it's not bad. Easy to prepare. And you can get 190 proof in CA, only on military bases though.

I cut the white sugar in half. Much better!

Have not made this yet but if you are not fermenting the extra sugar you are adding with yeast why sweeten it up...unless you want to get diabetes. If you are a homebrewer or wine maker at home and have a bucket with an airlock, all you need is 2 bottles of booze, 6 granny smith chopped apples, 2 cinnamon sticks, and 2 vanilla pods and let it sit in the fermenter for 4-6 weeks. I would only add the extra sugar and apple juice if you are planning on adding yeast and increasing the alcohol content. Cider yeast is available online but only add if you have a fermenter, bung and airlock or else you will be left with a mess.
