This family tradition involved even the kids at New Year's Eve. They got to help make it even if they didn't get to drink it. The beauty of this recipe is that every ingredient is one measure, which makes it easy to remember. Everybody from the great-grandparents to fraternity brothers have loved this one. I prefer Bourbon, but any whiskey, rum, brandy could be substituted. (If you use vodka, please don't tell me!) The old folks claimed the original recipe called for a Quart of Whiskey, but a pint is perfect.

Eggnog Pie with Rum

This pie is sensationally rich and the perfect holiday dessert offering. The crust is made from buttery and sugared pecans. The filling is a thick eggnog custard, laced with rum, and made even more wonderful with mounds of whipped egg whites and cream. The pie is chilled and frosted with spiced whipped cream. You can put this in a traditional crust or Pecan Nut Crust from this site.

This traditional version of classic eggnog is suspected of having roots dating to George Washington's era, but it certainly pulls out all the stops. A creamy blend of egg yolks, egg whites, heavy cream, milk, rum, brandy, and sherry, it requires aging at least 5 to 10 days to achieve its remarkable mellow taste.
