Directions

  1. In medium bowl, mix together cereal, flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
  2. In large mixing bowl, whisk together brown sugar, egg, oil. Whisk in water and vanilla. Stir in cereal mixture until combined. Stir in mini chocolate chips.
  3. Spread batter evenly in 33 x 23 cm (13 x 9-inch) baking pan coated with non-stick cooking spray.
  4. Bake at 180 degrees C (350 degrees F) for about 30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool completely, cut into bars. Store in airtight container.

I was intrigued because this recipe only had one single star rating and no reviews. I thought, "Could it possibly be THAT bad?" Well unfortunately it was almost that bad. I followed the recipe almost exactly, except that I halved it. I didn't want to use half an egg, so I used the whole egg but omitted the water. I noticed half way through cooking that the edges were puffed up really high, but it was flat in the middle. After about 20 minutes it started to smell burned, so I took it out. The result was a toffee like mess around the edges, with a slightly more bar-like appearance in the middle. The overall texture is more candy-like. The taste is OK, not great but tolerable, but I can't cut it into bars and have to scrape bits of it out of the pan. I'm not looking forward to cleaning the pan later!

This was such a good recipe! Changes I made: I used a smaller square cake pan instead of a cookie sheet (the cookies came out bigger and fluffy this way!), I also used All Bran Buds instead of the flakes and this recipe turned out wonderfully!

Very good and healthy. I use less sugar and more bran. Use artificial sweetener if you like it very sweet.

I made these exactly as described and they were really YUMMY! Easy, quick and with a nice chewy toffee cookie texture. I used 9 x 13 pan and was afraid they'd be too thin, but it all turned out just fine.
