  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a 2-quart square baking dish. Spread hot dog bun pieces out onto a baking sheet.
  2. Bake hot dog buns in the preheated oven until dry and crisp, 7 to 8 minutes. Cool completely.
  3. Beat condensed milk, 3/4 cup milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and nutmeg together in a bowl.
  4. Spread hot dog bun pieces out in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Pour milk mixture over buns. Scatter 1 cup marshmallows and 3/4 cup chocolate chips over the milk mixture; let rest until mixture is slightly soaked into bread, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs over the top.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until a knife inserted into the center of the bread pudding comes out clean, about 35 minutes.
  6. Whisk 2 tablespoons milk, 2 tablespoons marshmallows, and 2 tablespoons chocolate chips together in a saucepan over medium heat until marshmallows and chocolate are melted and completely incorporated. Pour marshmallow mixture over bread pudding and cool, 20 to 30 minutes.

Footnotes

  • Cook's Note:
  • You can also leave the hot dog bun pieces out at room temperature to dry out instead of baking.

This was a huge hit for "Up North"! The family was skeptical of the hot dog buns but after the first bite all anyone could think of was how much those buns were transformed. Nobody thought it ...

I didn't have hotdog bun so I used day old bread. Other than that, followed this to a "T". Very sweet for our taste but I think this would be a hit with kids. Thanks for sharing.

I just made this recipe. It was so easy. Everyone enjoyed it and was looking for more! Thank you for this wonderful recipe. I will continue to use it

Made it for a monthly women's group meeting and there was only a serving spoon's-worth left in the casserole; I'd say it was a hit! I'm not a baker by any means, and this was very easy to make....

This is a keeper! Not SOOO sweet that the adults were in the pan as much as the kids.
