  1. Combine apples, sugar, water, cranberries, and vinegar in a large saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until cranberries begin to break down, about 20 minutes. Stir walnuts, ginger, and nutmeg into apple mixture; cook until apples are tender and flavors of relish have blended, 10 to 15 more minutes. Pour relish into jars and cool to room temperature before covering with lids. Refrigerate.

I am now replacing cranberry sauce with this for holiday dinners

I added 1 T of brandy and took out 1/2 of cup of red wine vinegar.

The taste is superb after the fruit mixture cools. I'm also sealing mine into jars to give as gifts!

This is quite good! I only used half the vinegar, and a quarter of the walnuts, and substituted 1/4 tsp of ground ginger for the crystalline. Then I sealed it in jars. I would make it again.
