  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Mix cake mix, vegetable oil, and eggs together in a bowl using a fork until just blended. Divide mixture in half.
  3. Combine sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and butter in a saucepan over medium heat; cook and stir until melted, 2 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat.
  4. Press half the cake mixture into a 9x13-inch pan; pour chocolate mixture over cake mixture. Take a small handful of remaining cake mixture and flatten between your hands; lay atop chocolate layer. Repeat with remaining cake mixture.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until topping is lightly browned, about 20 minutes. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

Footnotes

  • Cook's Note:
  • For a chocolate version, use a chocolate cake mix and butterscotch chips in place of the white cake mix and milk chocolate chips.
  • Tip
  • Aluminum foil can be used to keep food moist, cook it evenly, and make clean-up easier.

I made these for our Girls Night Out in June. Very easy to make and they set up nicely. The girls loved them and I came home with an empty pan. I think that is a great compliment to this recipe....

This recipe was very good. I made a diagonal lattice top with the remaining half of dough. Next time I will try this recipe with chocolate cake mix and peanut butter chips.
