  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder in a small bowl.
  3. Beat butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar with an electric mixer in a large bowl until smooth; stir in egg and vanilla extract. Gradually blend flour mixture into butter mixture. Roll dough into walnut-sized balls and toss in 1/4 cup sugar; place 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
  4. Bake in preheated oven until golden, 8 to 9 minutes. Let stand on cookie sheet 2 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool.

I thought the moisture balance was way off. I followed the recipe to the letter and the dough turned out the texture of dry sandy clay and I had to squeeze each dough ball really hard to get it...

The batter came out beautifully, This the first review I have done.. I think this is a wonderful recipe, only thing I did different is I rolled my dough in Cinnimon, an sugar..an set Oven on 350...

Love this recipe because doesn't require shopping - lots of sugar cookie recipes call for cream of tartar or sour cream, which I don't have in the house regularly. Easy and quick.

Nice buttery flavor but like the texture and taste of Cracked Sugar Cookies from this site better.

Super easy, delicious, sweet and fluffy. Perfect for a spur-of-the-moment urge to make cookies. Tina, maybe the problems you had were due to over-beating the batter, making the cookies too small...
