  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add the milk, eggs and shortening; beat for 1 minute. Pour into a greased 9-in. square baking pan. Bake at 425 degrees F for 20-25 minutes or until bread is golden brown and tests done.

For those who felt that they'd like a sweeter bread, I suggest using evaporated milk instead of regular whole milk. Remember to use half evaporated milk and half water to equal the regular milk ...

Out of the ingredients for our favorite corn bread and not wanting to make a trip to the store, I used this recipe. Was good enough that I decided to make it again with a few minor adjustments....

I added a little more sugar and a can of corn and my family went crazy for this cornbread!

Very quick and easy to prepare. I made this recipe twice because the first time I made it, I personally found the recipe to be a little on the dry side and not quite sweet enough for corn bread....
