Old-Fashioned Green Beans

"Mom would prepare home-grown green beans using this recipe, and boy did they ever taste good. The bacon provides rich flavor and the brown sugar a touch of sweetness. This is one irresistible side dish. -Willa Govoro, St. Clair, Missouri"

Everyone in my family loves this dish. You can also make it using canned green beans instead of fresh. It cuts down on the cooking time and taste just as good.

My 20 month old can't get enough of these green beans... enough said.

I read the reviews, didn't use sugar and I only had canned beans and they turned out great. Also added in Onions before the beans and sauteed them first. Really liked the added flavor. Great sid...

Husband likes this more than I do - I've never been a fan of meat or veggies with anything sweet - but I do think the brown sugar offsets nicely the saltiness of the bacon. This is nice for a ch...

First time I made these with wax beans and they turned out great. The second time I used green beans and added golden raisins to the sauce. It was really good this way.

This is definitely going to be my new favorite green bean recipe! I did cut back on the brown sugar but, otherwise followed the recipe. Thanks Willa.

It's a delicious dish! I used it as a side with some baked pork chops. I don't usually cook heavier foods at night (ie bacon), but this dish is more than worth it, especially on a cold night.
