  1. In a small saucepan, combine vinegar, water, onion, garlic; simmer until the onion is tender, about 5 minutes. Add sugar; simmer until dissolved. Cool to room temperature. Stir in mayonnaise, sour cream, salt and pepper. In a large salad bowl, toss the lettuce,carrots and bacon bits; add dressing and toss to coat. Top with croutons if desired.

My boyfriend LOVED the dressing. I made it a little lighter using low-fat mayo and light sour cream, it was still thick, creamy and delicious. I used a bit less sugar as well. Great on salads...

I substitute a TBL of honey for the sugar, less sweet and it helps to bind it together
