  1. Place tomatoes, onion and garlic in a blender or food processor; blend until smooth. Transfer to a large saucepan. Add the chicken broth and seasonings; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes. Cut tortillas into 1/4-in. strips; fry in hot oil until crisp and brown. Drain. Ladle soup into bowls; top with tortilla strips, sour cream and cheese.

Very good; brought back memories of Mexico. I will add cubed avocado, like I had in Mexico, next time, to give it more texture.

Thought it was quite tasty but I also added pieces of cooked chicken, scallions, a jalapeno and a bell pepper. I also simmered it for at least 15 minutes to thicken and to allow flavors to meld...

Really great. i added some cayenne pepper for heat and 2 cups of water to make it a bit lighter tasting.

My husband loved this soup. After reading the reviews I decided that this recipe is a bit timid on the spices. I doubled the onion and quadrupled the garlic. I think cumin is a neglected spice ...
