  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add molasses. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine dry ingredients and spices; add to batter and mix lightly. Stir in nuts and raisins if desired; mix well. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes.

Very good cookie. I doubled the amount of molasses and added a little extra flour to make up for it. Came out soft and chewy with a nice flavor.

These were exceptional soft and chewy molasses cookies. I used currants rather than raisins because it was all I had on hand, and the extra bit of tang from that gave it a unique and tasty flavo...
