  1. Place beans in a saucepan and cover with water; cook for 8-10 minutes or until crisp-tender. Meanwhile, in a skillet, saute onion and green pepper in butter until tender. Stir in tomatoes, sugar, salt, bay leaf and cloves; simmer for 10 minutes. Drain beans; add to tomato mixture. Cover and cook for 5 minutes or until heated through. Discard bay leaf and cloves.

I'm not a big green bean fan but we had some fresh string beans and didn't want to sautee them so I tried this. It was delicious enough for me to get seconds. I went easy on the cloves though....

We added some vegetarian sausage to this, and everyone loved it. It's mildly sweet, with a great flavor from the cloves. I'd be happy to make it again. One warning, however: the string beans ...

We all enjoyed this. I used closer to 2 pounds of beans to use up what I had on hand. I was out of Whole Cloves so just threw a pinch of ground in and was perfect. Great side for Spanish chicken...

This recipes is easy and my husband loved it. I used fire roasted tomatoes didn"t have stewed.

This was a nice change than our usual. I would definitely make this again.
