"This reliable recipe has been in the family for years. I like the fact that it uses everyday ingredients so there's no running to the store at the last minute. - Doris Borneman, Forreston, Illinois"

  • Ready In

  1. In a skillet, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. In a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking dish, layer half of the potatoes, onion and beef; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Repeat layers. In a bowl, combine the soup, milk and green pepper; mix well. Pour over top. Cover and bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes. Uncover; bake 15 minutes longer or until potatoes are tender.

Footnotes

  • When a recipe instructs you to season with salt and pepper to taste, start with 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/8 pepper. Taste the finished food and gradually add more if needed. If the recipe has many canned or packaged foods (which usually contain a lot of sodium), 1/8 teaspoon each salt and pepper will likely suffice.

This was okay. I've used this basic recipe before with Ham, and prefer that flavour, I found the beef was just a bit boring. I added some garlic and some cheese to it. It's a good staple recipe ...

Everyone liked it!THIS IS A VERY GOOD RECIPE WHEN YOU ARE SHORT ON INGREDIENTS. You could use roasted garlic cream of mushroom too.

My husband and I both liked this. I did add some shredded Velveeta between the layers and on top. The only problem I had was the cooking time. The potatoes weren't quite done so I put the foil b...

Easy and quick to make. There were no leftovers on this one...my fiance ate the whole dish!! This will be made again in the future.

It takes about 15 minutes longer for the taters to be as cooked as we like. Also a little bland. We will try adding some garlic and maybe some green beans or corn

Great idea but I'd nix the canned mushroom soup, and saute the onions with the ground meat for more flavor. I actually made this as a stove-top by adding flour to the hamburger meat while fryin...
