  1. In a small saucepan, combine the water, butter and chocolate. Cook and stir over low heat until melted; stir until smooth. Cool.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking soda and salt. Add egg, egg white and sour cream; beat on low speed just until combined. Stir in chocolate mixture until smooth. In another mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, egg white and vanilla; set aside.
  3. Spread chocolate batter into a 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan coated with nonstick cooking spray. Drop the cream cheese mixture by tablespoonfuls over batter; cut through batter with a knife to swirl. Sprinkle with chocolate chips.
  4. Bake at 375 degrees F for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.


  • Nutritional Analysis: One bar equals 95 calories, 4 g fat (2 g saturated fat), 10 mg cholesterol, 90 mg sodium, 15 g carbohydrate, trace fiber, 2 g protein. Diabetic Exchanges: 1 starch, 1/2 fat.

I expected something more gooey. It was very cakelike and the cake was not very flavorful. Maybe I put too much baking soda or salt in it.

There was hardly any flavor to these bars! I would not recommend using this recipe.

I use recipe found in a Taste of Home Cookbook that use 1/2 cup butter (no substitutes), regular cream cheese and sour cream and 2 whole egges. Everyone raves about the brownies.

I used standard cream cheese and sour cream - they were excellent. The entire family loved them - certainly gooey enough for us!
