  1. In a Dutch oven, brown beef in oil on both sides over medium-high heat; drain. Top with onion, salt and pepper. Add water; cover and bake at 325 degrees F for 2-1/2 hours or until tender. Remove beef; refrigerate overnight. Discard onion and cooking liquid. Slice meat 1/4 in. thick; place in a roasting pan. Add barbecue sauce. Cover and bake at 325 degrees F for 30-45 minutes or until heated through.

Footnotes

  • This is a fresh beef brisket, not corned beef. The meat comes from the first cut of the brisket.
  • Tip: Refrigerating the beef overnight makes it possible to slice it very thinly.

This was simple and delicious! I used a crock pot instead of broiling. I would definately make this recipe again.

This was my first time making a beef brisket. I don't use a slowcooker, so I used a dutch oven and WOW. I melted in your mouth. I used a cajun rub for the outside and it rocks!
