  1. In a medium size frying pan, bring sherry to a gentle boil. Stir the dried dates, walnuts, lemon zest and nutmeg into it. Cook until sherry has boiled down (reduce the mixture). Immediately add milk and set in the fridge. Chill 1/2 hour.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease cookie sheets.
  3. In a medium size bowl, mix flour, pancake mix, baking powder, 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar, brown sugar and salt together. Using an electric mixer, combine the flour mixture, the applesauce, milk and almond extract.
  4. Cream the margarine and egg, and pour the creamed mixture into the batter. Continue to mix until the mixture is light and fluffy. Fold in the date mixture. Roll the dough into 1 1/2 inch balls and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
  5. Bake for 17 minutes, until the edges are light brown and crispy. Immediately sprinkle confectioner's sugar over the warm cookies. Cool and serve. These cookies freeze well.



They were TERRIBLE! There has to be something wrong with the directions for the ingredients. This was a sloppy mess - no way in the world to make into balls. Please have the ingredients re-ex...

What a mess of a recipe. A total waste of good ingredients. Did you drink most of the sherry before making these cookies???

I wish I had read the previous review before I gathered all the ingredients for this recipe. There is too much liquid in it to be able to form into cookies. I made bars instead, which were tas...

I took a big chance on trying this receipe based on the previous ratings. The end result, horrible. I reduced the quantity of liquid and it was still a complete mess.

My family ate it all in a flash at christmas time and asked for the recipie! Very good
