  1. In the top half of a double boiler melt the caramel with the coffee liqueur or rum and 1/2 cup evaporated milk. Cook until smooth, melted and slightly thickened. Pour caramel mixture into the tart shells and let cool.
  2. Beat the shortening, sugar, vanilla, butter or margarine and 1/3 cup evaporated milk together until fluffy. Frost cooled tarts.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!! These send everyone into cookie nirvana!!! My boss made these years ago, and would NOT give the recipe!!! This is it!! Thank you soooooooo much for sharing!!!!!

Not very good. The caramel part was good, but the frosting was a disaster. The sugar never dissolved and the frosting just tased like a blob of greasy fat with granulated sugar in it. I tried...

These cookies are wonderful! I made them for two different weddings and they were the first cookies to go! They may take a little bit of time to make, but they are definitely worth it!
