  1. Mix together shortening and confectioner's sugar and water. Stir in flour, salt, vanilla and almonds. Mix well.
  2. Form dough with hands into 3 inch lengths about pencil thin.
  3. Bake on ungreased sheet in a preheated 300 degrees F oven (150 degrees C) for 20 minutes.
  4. While cookies cool, melt chocolate chips in a double boiler or in a bowl in the microwave. When cookies are completely cool, dip one half in melted chocolate.

Great Recipe. I substituted 1 tsp. almond extract for more almond flavor and kept only 1 tsp. vanilla extract. - Excellent :)

I'm not sure what I did wrong but my cookies were awful. They tasted liked shortening and nothing else. :(

the kids love helping with all cookies... the fun with these was dipping the cookies we also rolled them in finely chopped nuts mmmm

Excellent cookies, very easy to make. As suggested before, I used a tsp. vanilla, and a tsp. almond extract. I will definitely make these again!
