Hello Buzzers! For those of you who've made the Huli Huli Chicken, is the sherry a necessary ingredient? I don't have any sherry or white wine in the house and can't get any at the moment. More inside >>>>

Getting mixed messages for substitutes for the sherry. From a mixture of vinegar, sugar and lemon juice. To a mixture of apple, cranberry and grape juice. I also read, for every tbsp of sherry, sub with 1 to 2 tsp of vanilla extract. Or replace half the amount with apple cider and the other half with water. And lastly, I read a good sub is orange juice or pineapple juice. Anyone agree with any of these or have any other ideas?

I used some white wine I picked up. It's only 1/4 cup, I think just sub in some extra pineapple juice would be fine. I did taste just a hint of the wine, but the soy overpowered most of it all for me. Couldn't taste the pineapple at all.

I did not use sherry. I use extra pineaple juice. I use half for marinate and reduced half on the stove. I added some hot sauce after I reduced the sauce because it needed some flavor since I am missing the wine flavor.I reduced the soy too.

I think you could use pineapple juice like the others said. Whatever you do, don't use vanilla extract. Can't possibly see that working. Any of your other options might work. It is funny but the soy sauce wasn't over powering to me. I always use the low sodium kind so maybe that is why?

Yeah, that vanilla extract one had me scratching my head. But thnx ladies! Luckily, I have extra pineapple juice. Unfortunately, it's almost 4 here, so will marinate overnight and have it tomorrow. Thanks again!
