To tone down a sauce that taste too spicy (too much chili powder) do I keep adding water until the desired taste?

Peel 2 -3 large potatoes and mix them into your sauce. Leave in for 1/2 hour, then taste and if it's still too spicy leave it in until your taste test tells you otherwise. Then remove the potatoes and serve.

Add sugar and/or lemon juice or vinegar. I would start with the sugar then taste and if its still spicy try the acid. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. Great advice. Recipe called for cream cheese and it did tone it down some.
