Tammy is asking: (1 answer)
I'm making crock pot adobo chicken, but instead of a 3 lb. chicken, I'll be using 2.5 lbs. of bone-in split breast. How much should I adjust the cooking time? Thanks!

Slow cooker recipes for the most part are not overly dependent on exact time, especially when the recipe calls for a low setting. Different brands of slow cookers also vary. This recipe calls for “turn it [slow cooker] to the Low setting, and cook until the chicken breasts are no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear, about 6 hours.” Also, the recipe doesn’t even specify weight of chicken breasts so I’m not sure where you got the 3 lbs. as the basis for your question. Take note too that recipe is based on frozen chicken being used so that would take longer than if at fridge temp. Ideally, if you have a cooking thermometer, you take the guess work out. If you don’t have a thermometer, just go with 6 hours . . . I glanced at lower rated reviews and flavor issues are much more prominent rather than dryness of chicken suggesting the time is about right. Good luck.

Conky Joe, the recipe specifies "1 (3 pound) whole chicken, cut into pieces," but I do not see where it specifies to use a frozen chicken. I do agree that the time is of little issue . . . Tammy, we love this recipe! I use a red onion and white vinegar. And, at the advice of two Filipino co-workers, despite the comments of reviewers, I add 4T brown sugar.

Tammy . . . after posting, the recipe that pulled up here was Crock Pot Portobello Chicken *** http://allrecipes.com/recipe/crock-pot-portobello-chicken/detail.aspx ***. This may be the one you’re making . . . http://www.food.com/recipe/crock-pot-adobo-chicken-185398 . . . I would still shoot for about 6 hours.

This made me curious . . . if crock pot is entered into search bar above, it pulls up 52 recipes . . . if slow cooker is entered into search bar above, it pulls up 1,179 recipes . . . AR, its time to trade in your search engine for a new era one.

I agree with you ConkyJoe about ARs search engine! This search engine is very specific. I often need to try various words and spellings. My library has a very touchy search engine too. I wish they were a little more like Google who knows what I want before I've finished asking. ( in fact, I wish my DH was a little more like Google in that regard!)
