I don't have brown sugar for my chocolate cookies so i just add granulated sugar twice the amount of it. And then i thought, maybe the brown sugar makes the cookies light brown. What is the alternative ingredient tHat i can put in my recipe to make it brown?

Ingredients To make light brown sugar 4 cups granulated sugar 1/4 cup unsulfured molasses ----------------------------------------- To make dark brown sugar: 4 cups granulated sugar 1/2 to 2/3 cup unsulfured molasses Directions Place white sugar in bowl of mixer. Whisk for a few minutes to break up any clumps. Add desired amount of molasses. Mix for several minutes until completely blended. Store in an airtight container. Footnotes You can adjust to your preference. We like strong flavors but if you want something lighter, just back down the molasses and then add more if you prefer.

White sugar will make cookies very crisp. Brown sugar gives cookies a nice chewy texture. Since you already added it try adding 1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon of molasses per cup of sugar.

To make brown sugar out of white use the following for 1 cup of brown sugar: 1 cup white sugar plus 1/4 cup molasses and decrease the liquid in recipe by 1/4 cup OR 1 cup white sugar OR 1 1/4 cups confectioners' sugar
