So, I am so excited I just got my first bread machine. First loaf turned out so yummy. I am looking for an everyday, tried, and true recipe to replace buying bread. Anyone else skip buying bread? Do share.

You can adapt just about anything for the breadmaker. First put in your liquid and egg if you have one, then the flour and salt, yeast on top. It's easy, just don't use a recipe that makes too big a loaf. Check your book that came with it and I picked out recipes that had about the same amount of flour as the ones in the instruction book. Then I knew they would bake up ok in my breadmaker. They are so much fun. When my kids were little, I used mine every day.

The order of ingredients only matters when using the delay cycle since you don't want the yeast to come in contact with the liquids until ready to begin. As soon as the machine starts, everything whizzes together. Most recipe books that come with the machine don't want to bother with 2 version of each recipe (with/without delay), so they are usually written for use of the delay cycle. That is also the reason for powdered milk. Dairy products can spoil if sitting at room temp for several hours before the machine starts. Just avoid the delay cycle and use whatever milk you normally buy. There is no reason to buy powdered milk just for use in a bread machine.

Thanks, I got my bread machine from a thrift store, so no instructions, I bought powered milk but will skip it in the future. One more question, is there a special way to cut it? Or perhaps a cutter of some sort?
