As some of you know I was a little hesitant the other day regarding a potluck my work was doing today. We have not had great luck with them in the past mostly because most folks don't participate in the bringing, but have no problem participating in the eating. So I'm game, I bite, I prepare a dish. We were told the potluck would start at 11:30, once the kids left for the day. That morning I heard rumor that it was moved up to 10:30. No problem, just crank up the crockpot everything will be fine. At around 11:15 i get a call from the office stating "aren't you guys coming to the potluck?". Wait, I still have 15 minutes! My food is in my room! "We'll be right there" I state. Me and the aides grabbed our food and headed off to the cafeteria. Well, wouldn't you know, everyone has already gotten their food and taken it food back to their classrooms???? At this time it is only 10:20? Well, to make a long story slightly longer most of the food was gone except 12 bags of potato chips. I did get to enjoy my food (and will for the next 4 days)but have decided that this will be the last potluck I partake in! Now for a glass of WINE! TGIF

I ended up just using stuff I had on hand from a recipe I saw on Pinterest. Layered red sauce, uncooked spaghetti, alfredo sauce, meatballs, and cheese x2. It wasn't bad actually, I was worried the pasta wouldn't cook but it did.

Well, that was not nice at all, can you freeze it? Or have people over and feed it to them, along with wine of course. Have to make supper, have a great night:))

Agree with manella. We had holiday potlucks at a former job, and I found out a couple of things were at work. 1. Some people don't know how to cook; and, 2. Some people actually eat that way all the time, so they are bringing what they would "cook" at home. Sad. My beautifully prepared dishes were passed up for the stuff others brought in cans.

I had friends who had brought things that I really wanted to try too, lol. I asked why they started early and someone said "well the food was just sitting here getting cold so we decided to start". Bothers me how people sometimes are only worried about themselves and not how it will affect others. Oh well, I froze some in containers and will eat some this weekend so at least it won't go to waste. There are 8 classrooms, a minimum of 4 staff per room plus office staff and probably only 10 home cooked dishes (from what I could tell). Never again

Awww! Korie....glad you have the glass of wine...That is aggravating. Curious why all was not put in the main get-together room to begin with? (Probably not enough plugs)

lol, love it Mrs. J. I love when people ask "what can I bring". I already have it set in my head what goes with what im having and have no problem stating that. Hey, if they asked, why not!

since they are remodeling our school there are 3 classrooms using the cafeteria as their classroom for summer school so there was really no place to keep it in there. I actually was the only crockpot.

Once upon a time: New job, first potluck, no one told me that if the secretary didn't "confirm" the day before there would be no potluck. I used my first ever AR recipe for that potluck and I ate it all myself(not in one lunch). My coworkers were appalled that I would not share so I related to them that potluck had a definition and it wasn't "Linda brings in treats". They called me triflin', hahaha

Yep, been there - done that. I did one potluck at work (about 2 years ago)and vowed it my last for the same reason. I worked in a large office of about 80 people. I would say 20-25 people brought stuff and did make an effort to bring something good and the people who didn't were the first in line to grab a healthy plateful. I was so angry that my Boss allowed this (he bought and grilled the hotdogs and rolls and thus the lead person) type of behavior. You would swear these people never ate. First and last time for me. And even though everyone who brought stuff complained about the "food frenzy" they still participated.

yes, funny how that works. I even noticed full plates of food sitting back behind the kids feeding counter while I was washing my spoon. I assume people were making plates for others that couldn't get over in time either. Looked like some yummy stuff on there.

They finally did away with treats day and potlucks at my school because the same people brought food all the time, including me, and the same people ate all the time without contributing. The eaters then complained that we didn't have treats or potlucks anymore. Amazing!

When I was in college I worked at a retail store. Wed have pot lucks on busy sale days named holidays. One of the old from Me a who'd been in the dpt for ages would always say- NO BRINGY- NO EATY. And guess what- you didn't bring- you didn't eat! I loved her. We would also do a sign up sheet so we'd know what was coming. If you brought chips, you also have to bring plates napkin or plastic cutlery. We didn't have any problems if you followed the protocol. Sounds like your co-workers need some teaching. LOL!!
