Home-Style Scalloped Potatoes

Can I prepare these in the morning and bake that same night or will the potatoes absorb the milk? Also will the potatoes oxidize?

Yes, the potatoes will start to oxidise and probably turn a grayish brown color. Why don't you get the potatoes cut, then store, covered, in the refrigerator until you get close to cooking time. At that time, drain the potatoes, and continue with the recipe.

BTW, make sure you drain the potatoes before continuing with the recipe!

Usually, you can prepare the dish ahead of time and refrigerate until ready to bake. As long as the potatoes are covered with the liquid/sauce it should minimize any oxidation. This is really an augratin potato recipe since it uses cheese. Scalloped potatoes don't contain cheese and instead have a cream sauce. Some of the recipes indicate it is too strong with garlic so might compare to other scalloped potato recipes to see which you like best.

i would make something like this ahead of time. just make sure all of the potatoes are covered with the sauce. :-)

Thank you for your suggestions. I will slice the potatoes in the morning and keep them in the frig covered with water until I am ready to assemble the dish. Happy holidays to all of you!
