The4taals, did you make the vanilla cupcakes using cake flour? Please do tell me how that went!

I think I used AP, if I used cake flour it would have been the homemade version, as I usually don't buy it.

Thanks. I have to make a cake and cupcakes for an upcoming very special 11th birthday! I'm going to do a version (MY version, so not so pretty as this I'm sure) of the second cake down: http://www.craftsy.com/blog/2013/07/zebra-print-cakes/

I'll probably do the Almond Wedding Cake to hold up to that. But then there have to be cupcakes, too!

Wish me luck! I'm going to need it. I did buy black and white fondant from my local cake supply place. I decided to do the ruffles in blue buttercream frosting. It will be a fun project!

fingers crossed for you! smart buying the black fondant, it is hard to get a true black with homemade.

And I would never use the Wilton sheets again, either!

Marianne, the photo w/ your cupcakes shows them in mini cup liners. Do they work well? I've used decorative ones for yrs but only w/ candy (too chicken to make little cupcakes), even though they'd get so greasy. Do cc come out cleanly? Thanks, and you're going to have a happy gdaughter.

Yes, emeralds, they work well. You bake them at the same temp but just a little shorter of time. You just need to do the touch test (they should lightly spring back), and don't leave them for very long in the tin (they get soggy). I'm lucky that my granddaughter is almost always happy. But she's getting closer and closer to being a teen (yikes----we all know what THAT means!)!

Teendom can be a good thing for all involved!! I'm well past that, but can I tell you my bday is the 11th? Last yr I wasn't sleeping and it was kind of a non-issue, but this yr it'll be a fun day. The 2nd time I made ccakes I was overthinking it. Had read many warnings abt not opening the oven too much so overbaked them. And then another batch I didn't leave in pan long enough. They were soggy but then kind of chewy after cooling. Maybe humidity was a factor too. But yours is definitely my recipe because of the fantastic taste. I'm wanting to eat way too much of many of the new recipes I'm trying - time to go back to the ones I've made for yrs and am bored with!

I added your birthday! Just in time, too! Fridays are always a good day for birthdays! I know what you mean about wanting to eat all these recipes we keep trying!

Thanks. I should tell buzzers that sometimes that's why I'm hesitant to make their recipes! I've not made bread for many years for a reason.
