This is really two recipes in one - 6 cups of brandied fruit, and 2 cups of starter for the Thirty Day Friendship Cake.

I made this starter once, and didn't have the nerve to use it/give it as gifts. I even threw out the container. I'd like to try again and give a few as gifts.

http://www.recipegoldmine.com/foodgiftsoup/painted-desert-chili-mix.html ..I did a version of this recipe a few years ago. I don't know if anyone actually made it. I think I'll adjust the recipe a bit and try again. It helps to have a lot of schoolteachers in the family; they appreciate the effort, if not the result.

DD will have some say in what is actually made. She loves to give out presents at Christmas, and on a college kid's income the presents need to be pretty inexpensive. I figure we'll make them when she's home at Thanksgiving, along with some cookies and breads.

I usually make around 15 different cookies, but these are some of the "must have" recipes every Christmas. My husband's family doesn't cook or bake so they always appreciate homemade gifts, as do the teachers, hockey coaches etc

Wow! A lot of work, 4taals! I don't do nearly that much. I've cut back tremendously in the last few years. I imagine you have a lot of fun with it.

A co-worker made this last year. It's very good, Shorecook! I'll be making it for sure, along with a few other fudges, for DH's coworkers. Thanks!

Thanks ellie! That was our 25th anniversary celebration. We cruised from New York to Bermuda aboard Royal Carribbean's "Song of America". We were fortunate to have the twin towers in the background. Every Sept. I change my photo to honor our heroes.

Fudge is always a hit for the workplace, Elle! As a school bus driver, I received a tin one year. I thought it was cookies and took it into the bus compound to share with the other drivers. When the lid came off, the place went wild when they saw the fudge. It was a major "hit"!

http://allrecipes.com/personalrecipe/62235054/coffee-extract/detail.aspx ...I know many of you make vanilla extract for Christmas gifts. I tried this, wasn't too happy with the result. But I plan to try it using beans instead of coffee grounds-I think the potential is there. I don't know how long it will take using beans.

I should say ground coffee, not coffee grounds. I halved the recipe, and too much got absorbed by the grounds and then the filter. It needed several filters, and there was nothing left but a muddy-looking mess when I was done. Maybe if I'd made the full recipe, it would have worked.

http://allrecipes.com/personalrecipe/62192646/moms-miniature-christmas-fruitcakes/detail.aspx I want to try this at Christmas, also. It doesn't say anything about rum or brandy, so I assume they are just baked and given? I plan to use a fancy-dancy individual cake pan for these, so I can give just one or two.

I make turtles (I think this is the caramel recipe I use, I have it printed at home). And also chocolate covered nuts. But the turtles are everyone's favorite.

Popcorn is a great idea, Mrs. J., especially for DD. I have a good cinnamon popcorn recipe-usually a hit. Celeste posted one a year or so ago that I'd like to try, too.

Colleen-DH loves turtle candies! It's always fun to try a new recipe for them. I'm sure he'd enjoy any experimentation. Lol.

Last year I gave out homemade peach preserves, brownies in a jar and a peppermint sugar body scrub. I may do the sugar scrub again this year as every one loved it! No peaches this year, so I need to come up with something else!

Mrs. J-not peppermint and not sugar, but the is a favorite of mine to give: http://allrecipes.com/personalrecipe/30759688/scented-bath-salts/detail.aspx ...of course, the person you give it to has to enjoy an occasional bath; some people just like to shower.

Elle - the guidance counselor and her daughters made sugar scrubs for the office gals last Christmas. We all LOVED it. She put it in 8 oz. canning jars, added ribbon and a plastic spoon to dish it out. My skin fells wonderful when I use it.

Your recipes are always good, Celeste! The Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread is DH's absolute favorite. I make him several loaves to take with him when he leaves for work (every two weeks) when it's cool enough to bake.
