K, I'm not a huge fan of Crock Pot cooking but I do love it for beans especially when it's 100 plus outside. Yesterday I got my crock out and noticed a rancid smell in the cabinet. Then saw some oil oozing out from the seam near the base. It was put away clean and I couldn't figure out where the oil had come from. I wiped it and cooked my chick peas. Went to clean the base and when I lifted it one of the rubber feet stuck to the counter and then a good bit more oil, both clear and creamy white oozed and dripped from the foot hole. Ewwwww, rancid, ewwww. Is this normal? Do all crock pots have oil in the base? Am I the last to know?

Never seen such a thing, but it would be enough for me to invest in another crock pot. I can't imagine what would cause that. Maybe someone else will have some insight.

It is fairly old, yet still a new-ish "cooks too hot" pot. I was telling dd and she said maybe when you cooked chicken stock it leaked fat down the side and into the base somehow. I don't see how that could be it what with the inside lip of the crock insert. Sure some drips happen but not enough to ooze out an inch up from the bottom and at the hole at the bottom. I said a fair amt of oil but after inspecting the cabinet it was maybe a teaspoon total. I could see if some got in it could leak out the rubber foot hole but not how it could ooze out an inch above the bottom. Maybe I could see if I used it all the time but if I've used it 3-4 times a year since I've had it I'd say that was the most it's been used. I contacted Rival and will see what they have to say. Either way, guess it's trashed.

Another EWWW. Got a reply to my inquiry. Yep, not any oil in the crock so what was in there, however it got there, was on my end. Must have been the chicken stock because it's usually just beans cooked in there. Anyway, that thing hit the trash, saved the insert to use in oven.
