i need some help....i bought a (tv chef) brand cast iron pot a while back. i am having a very hard time seasoning it...see inside for more....

no matter how many times i have baked it, or oiled it, i can still wipe out black residue. any suggestions? bake it more?

The best advice that I was given for seasoning a cast iron pan was cook a whole package of bacon and it will season the pan nicely. If the first batch doesn't quiet get it seasoned as you like then cook a second package. It's worked every time for me.

ther is a free website called "eHow" which is a great help . Type your question in and it will have a couple answers. I use it a lot, Ingrid

yeah, i've done all of that; still not enough. bummer. guess i have to try and bake it again.

Hi njmom, this may sound like a dumb question, but did you wash your pan with hot soapy water and a hard brush before oiling and baking?

well, i washed it; the instructions didn't say anything about using a hard brush on it first....what do you suggest i should do now? did i ruin it? :-(

I would do it now, and reseason it, just wash it till it's clean (no black wiping off and use an old towel so you don't ruin any good ones :)

NJMom, I believe your sisters are leading you in the correct direction! Scratching balding greying head, can never be entirely sure that you will get away from "black bits" off of a true cast iron pan, but the key things are how you season it to start, and afterwards, how you clean it.
