Looking for a quick answer if anyone is around. I found a bag of "Indian Basmati Rice" in grandma's pantry. Thinking of making it tonight (in a few). I never had it, what does it taste like?

I bought a bag a while back and we think it tastes and smells "better". I can't really say how. :)

Hi, I have used this rice for years now it is a long grain rice which to me has a better taste than any long grain I have always used before. Hard to give a taste description but if you use 2 to 1 ratio you will not go wrong.

You should always rinse it well in a sieve before cooking - your rice will be fluffier.

Basmati rice itself is a short grained rice that is much more tender than the long grains it lends itself well to risotto. I use it that way and also any dishes that include rice. As far as the Indian part I must assume it is seasoned. If you follow the pkg suggestions you should be OK. Be warned however once you develop a taste for this rice you will never go back to the long grain and it also costs a lot more but worth it. Hope I helped a little. GG

Sorry I have to correct myself I should have looked at container first. This rice's origin is from India and it has a unique flavor characteristic which makes it so good. It also has not undergone all the processes of commercial white rice. It's grain is not as long as traditional rice. It's also available in brown. (My senior moment: got mixed up with aborio rice) sorry. I get at our local Wal mart it's close to 5$ lb but worth it Enjoy. GG

I made it last night with the Huli Huli chicken. Came out great and I did rinse it. Thanks everyone.
