I did a combination of these two recipes. It was gorgeous, moist and delicious. The second day the layers had more color contrast, the flavors melded and it was even better. I stabilized the whipping cream as I was afraid it would not hold up. After putting the cake layers together, I placed it in the freezer for 30 minutes. The marzipan went on, with the help of a second person, without any problems. It laid perfectly smooth over the dome and the sides smoothed out easily. With the extra marzipan, I made pearls for around the base of the cake, three roses for the top and eight roses placed in clusters at the base. I still had a bit more marzipan leftover. Next time I would hold back some of the marzipan and color it pink. As it was, I had to use a bit of pink ribbon to get the look I wanted. I will absolutely make this cake again.

Wow, that sounds fantastic! I'm bookmarking those sites. It's been ages since I made a really fancy cake; this definitely seems worth it.

It was nice to have a special cake for Easter. I am glad someone requested this cake as I had never heard of it.

Marianne, I should start doing that as we now have a camera, again. You could easily make this cake and you have lots of folks to eat your goodies. I think I am off sweets for awhile. I am craving veggies after my Easter candy binge.

Marie, the family down the street is going Paleo (my son needs to shed a lot of pounds). I'm going to try to help them out.

Most of my neighbors are pre-diabetic and all the cute little kiddos have moved away. Makes me a bit sad that I have very few reasons to bake anymore. Have a wonderful week.

That's too bad. There is something so comforting about baking.
