J Minore is asking: (1 answer)
I am new to preparing meals for our family and am trying to learn new options. I have a Rival slow cooker with a 5 quart stoneware pot. It also came with a second stoneware pot that is split with one side 3 quart and the other 2. When I cook in the solo pot, it seems like recipes are not enough to fill the pot sufficiently for good cooking. I would like to try cooking in the split pot, using just one side or the other. My question is, will that hurt the empty side of the stoneware? Or should I add water to the empty side? If I do add water to one side, will that affect the recipe on the other side? Thanks for any advice you can provide. Jeff

I would add water to the empty side, but can not speak from experience. It would not affect the food side. It would follow the same principle as to why you put water in an empty muffin pan when you have batter in all the other holes in the pan.

I have never hear that sueb! What is the reasoning for that

If one of the holes stays empty, it heats the metal, making it more likely to cook the next muffins or cupcakes darker or more quickly.

Well! I went looking on the internet, and found this! I stand corrected! But, I think with stoneware, I'd still fill the empty half with water! http://kitchen-myths.com/2011/12/10/myth-when-baking-muffins-fill-empty-cups-with-water-for-even-baking/

Why not use the pot as intended & cook two different things at once? My friend uses her large crock pot on the W/E to make enough for the week's work lunches. Saves her a lot of time & money.

yes, just throw in some fresh veggies, carrots, green beans whatever. Might as well use it.
