I make my pesto with parmesan cheese, fresh basil from my garden, pine nuts and some other ingredients. I use pesto as a sauce for pasta or sometimes if I want to get fancy, I'll use it when I make pizza. Instead of putting your red sauce on, I'll spread pesto on the crust and then put whatever toppings I want on. As a side note, when I put it on pasta, it's not as much a sauce as it is lightly tossed in the pesto...i.e. don't put a ton on. Hope that helps a little. :)

I make mine in food processor with parmesan cheese, fresh basil & parsley, garlic, pine nuts, and olive oil. We eat it as a side tossed lightly with spaghetti noodles and on a pizza crust as mentioned above. Yum!

me too! My favorite is pesto pizza, using it instead of tomato sauce!

I make mine in a blender and freeze it in ice cube trays. Just pop out when frozen, wrap in some plastic wrap and store in a zip lock bag in the freezer. One of my favourite ways to use it is to spread it thinly on fish and bake it with a couple of lemon slices on it. I also pop it in soups and tomato sauces for a lovely burst of flavour.

Check out this recipe...Grilled Mahi Mahi with Roasted Pepper Sauce and Cilantro Pesto..Love the cilantro pesto, on the fish, on bread. Went to a luncheon and was served a grilled chicken breast over risotto which was on top of some veggie reduction. Basil pesto was served on the table. We put it on the chicken and on the bread.

Walnuts are a good sub for pine nuts. I'm guessing they're still pretty expensive. Pesto is excellent!

Is there a way I might think about pesto? For example like a condiment?
