********* This is how the RECIPE GROUP works. Thursday we nominate and vote on a theme, such as appetizers, slow cooker meals, holidays, pies, etc. You are allowed ONE nomination and ONE vote. Friday morning we recommend ONE recipe and ONE vote for recipes with 0-10 reviews. Voting is closed at midnight AR time(the time you see on the board, anything with the next days date will be disallowed) You don’t have to vote for the recipe you recommend. Please pick Kitchen Approved members recipes only, if it is submitted by a sponsor (Campbells, Pillsbury,Chef John, etc) it will be disallowed. We will have a tiebreaker vote if needed for a short time on Saturday morning. The winning recipe will be posted Saturday. We have all week to make the chosen recipe (until the next Sunday) and then the cycle starts all over again. Review the recipe (please state you made it for Recipe Group), and post a picture if possible. Anyone can just jump in - so if you are new, feel free to participate like you were always a part of the group. ****If you want to see all the recipes we have done in the past you can visit this thread -

Hey, Sassy! Can I step in and say this should be a broad category, recipe doesn't have to have those words in the name, just the spirit of the region! Recipes containing the Trinity, creole/cajun spices, Tabasco, Mardi Gras theme, etc, etc, etc! I think it's all GOOD!
Feb. 1, 2013 6:27 am
Thanks Sassy.

I should have checked my email first, there are a few brand new AR recipes that qualify for this theme. Don't know why they didn't come up in my recipe search.

Yep, Savi, I considered it that way, I should have found a hominy recipe!

Creole Macaroni and Cheese

A cheese sauce made with Gruyere cheese, aged Cheddar, and Parmesan and the addition of andouille sausage give this baked macaroni and cheese a Louisiana flavor that can not be beat!

Shrimp and Sweet Corn Maque Choux

Submitted by: REAL Butter
A spicy Southern dish, Shrimp & Sweet Corn Maque Choux is satisfying and ready in under 30 minutes. This is my recreation of the Emeril Lagasse dish we had his restaurant, NOLA, in New Orleans. Fresh vegetables are the key to this recipe, which cook quickly and retain their bright, crisp flavors.

This New Orleans-influenced recipe uses canned tomatoes with green chiles, hot sauce, and garlic to deliver a flavorful beef stew.

Creamy deviled eggs have a hint of spice thanks to hot sauce and a sprinkle of Cajun seasoning for garnish.

Amazing Muffaletta Olive Salad

Submitted by: AZ
This combines my love of the New Orleans-style olive salad that you find on muffaletta sandwiches and Italian olive tapenades. With so many olives how could you go wrong? I use it on fish, sandwiches, dips, and in herbed breads.

Cajun Blackened Catfish

Submitted by: Paul Schultz

Catfish fillets are coated with a spicy seasoning mix, and pan-fried outdoors in a hot cast-iron skillet for an authentically Cajun main dish that's done in only a few minutes. Watch out, though, the smoke is intense.
